...No. No, that's a new one. What, exactly, is going on?

One of the books I found did. It doesn't yet seem dangerous, but I haven't yet determined what precisely is making it move. A spell, I assume, unless something's possessing it.

You've got a maybe possessed book and you haven't gotten rid of it yet? Are you insane?

It's face less dangerous to me than it would be to someone else. I happen to know a thing or two about curses.

Sounds ominous.

I'm a witch, dear, it helps to be prepared. If nothing you've picked up has done anything unusual that's good, but keep checking, just in case.

You're already nice to me, dear. Was that planning on changing?

I can think of one or two reasons I might wanna be mean to you, sweetheart.

I'm sure we'll discover that along the way, and what happens in return.

That's even more threatening than before.

So what does it mean to be a witch? I've met a lot of magic here but none of them used the word 'witch'.

[magike]

And yet you've heard the word before in stories, hmm?

[retrievalist]

Stories, yeah, but there are a handful of cultures across my world who practice witchcraft. It's not a new thing it's just it, you know. Wasn't real.

[magike]

And yet women have practiced magic for centuries despite the Trials and horrors that have tried to say they shouldn't.

Magic comes from nature. Being a witch means I harness that power, using it in spells or potions. That's all.

[retrievalist]

[ Wait. ]

Trials? As in, Salem Witch Trials?

[ What. ]

[magike]

Any of them, I suppose. I don't know those in Salem personally, but that history is awfully similar to Scotland's.

[retrievalist]

[ Personally? ]

You know, I've always been told never to ask a woman her age but maybe you'll forgive me for asking this time.

And maybe we should talk a little about the world you came from because we seem to have an awful lot of similarities.
